Why do we find ourselves lost, confused, unsure? Why do we look back and often regret not having more clarity? Why does obsessing over the future cause anxiety?
I’ve been trying to answer these questions for a long while.
My current answer:
We are lost, confused, unsure because we lose touch with our true selves in the vast sea of distraction that is our outside world.
If you find yourself living with any regrets, it is because you are comparing and judging yourself and your experiences to some arbitrary standard.
If you are obsessed with controlling every future outcome of your life, you will become a giant ball of anxiety and stress because you know the truth that you simply cannot. You don’t even know when you’re going to take your last breath.
Once we accept that everything is how it should be and also WAS how it was, then inner peace is right there in your presence. The only control we have is in the present moment over what thoughts we choose to create and act on.
Life as a vision quest is sounding more and more like a bunch of horse shit to me. We keep seeking clarity and creating a vision of the future which usually means trying to attain and accomplish stuff we don’t have right now which honestly sounds fucking miserable to me these days because it only reinforces the notion that we are living in lack at the current moment. It’s like a cruel joke we play on ourselves. Haha, you don’t have what you want. And if you think about it, that is because we allow others to tell us what we need and want.
We don’t need a “vision”. We probably don’t even need a purpose, or even goals for that matter.
What we do need is to be present and grateful for right now by NOT needing to be richer or thinner or even to be more loved.
The work of a successful life is to be fully engaged in each moment as it is happening and simply doing our best without regretting the past nor trying to control the future.
Peace is always within reach, within your power, within you.
